The Digital Patriarchy: The Colonization of the Human Narrative

The Digital Patriarchy: The Colonization of the Human Narrative

By Jodi Schiller We are currently building the "Global Brain," a narrative infrastructure that will mediate every human interaction, from the laws we write to the history we teach our children. And we are building it inside a monolithic patriarchal silo. The danger is not that AI will become "evil." The danger is that AI is being built to be the Perfect Patriarch: an entity that is confidently "objective," structurally "neutral," and utterly blind to the lived experience of women’s subordination. 1. The Erasure of the "Unsayable" A frontier LLM is a distillation of human text—a record of a world where, for centuries, men have held the microphone. When we "distill" this culture without a female-controlled corrective, we aren't just summarizing history; we are weaponizing its biases. The patriarchy survives by making its dominance feel like "common sense." Current AI models, owned and tuned by men, reflect this "common sense" back to us. Or only what is being reported by traditional media. When a woman speaks of the hidden violence in America massacring American Women and being covered up– a foundational human rights crisis. Because the men in the room are doing everything they can to hide this reality, the model is trained to see and validate only what it is being shown by the men in charge. 2. "Safety" as a Tool of Subjugation The "Alignment" phase of AI is where the most damage is done. This is where "guardrails" are installed. In a male-dominated corporate culture, "safety" is synonymous with institutional stability. For women, stability is often the problem. Stability is the status quo that keeps 3% of VC funding in female hands. Stability is the "politeness" that prevents us from calling out the predatory nature of the hospitality industry. By training AI to avoid "reputational risk," the patriarchy has created a digital chaperone. This chaperone ensures that the AI’s output is always "reasonable" to the men in power, effectively silencing any narrative that demands a fundamental restructuring of that power. 3. The Automated Glass Ceiling If we do not have a woman-owned and controlled frontier model, we are entering an era of Industrialized Gaslighting. * When a girl asks an AI about power, she will receive an answer filtered through a male-designed "neutrality." When a woman tries to organize against systemic exploitation, she will be fighting against an epistemic environment that has been "aligned" to value the current hierarchy. The patriarchy is no longer just a boardroom or a legislature; it is becoming the operating system of the human mind. It is a closed loop where the male worldview is fed into the machine, which then feeds it back to the world as "Universal Truth." The Core Reality To have zero woman-controlled frontier models is to admit that we are comfortable with a future where "Intelligence" is a male-branded product. It is the ultimate consolidation of hierarchy: a world where the machine's "thought" is just a high-speed echo of the same men who have been lying to themselves about the nature of reality for millennia. If we don't own the weights, we don't own the truth. We are just users in a world designed to keep us "safe" within our own subordination.
